My nephew is going to his senior prom on Saturday. About a week ago I got a call from my sister saying my nephew wanted to know if I could help him make a wristlet for his girlfriend…I of course said sure!
He and his girlfriend came over last week and we got to work. We decided to use felt instead of getting real flowers, as putting together real flowers would have to be done at the last possible moment so they were fresh and lovely. We chose white felt and I used the rose template from How Joyful to make 10 felt roses in varying sizes. With those roses we made a 3 rose wristlet, a boutonniere for my nephew and we made his girlfriend a new sash with flowers on it for her dress. Sorry for the dark photos…took them at night.

We added a little white tulle to fill in some empty spots. The flowers for the sash were put on a brooch pin so she could place it where she wanted.
The prom is a masquerade theme…and what do you need for a masquerade party? Masks of course! He asked for help with these also. He found an idea online…they were pretty pricey…about $60…don’t remember if that was for each or both. With a little help from our LSS and some creativity, we came up with these.
The masks were plastic…and came in white and black…we decided to paint my nephews silver as I didn’t like the way the white plastic looked. We used black diamond stickles to make the web and I added a spider we found at the store…we embellished it with a couple red gems for the eyes and mounted with foam tape to add a little dimension. We added a few clear gems to the mask to jazz it up a bit more. For her mask we started out with the plastic and added the stickles. Unfortunately the stickles didn’t do well on the plastic and I had to start completely over the next day. I painted it black which helped the stickles to adhere much better. I put some white netting and a few black feathers behind the mask. We added embellishments to her spider as well as to her mask. My nephew said he was asking around at school to see what others were doing…they were just putting feathers on the plastic masks…I think my nephew and his girlfriend will be a huge hit at the prom on Saturday!
So, what do you think?
Thanks for stopping by!
